uncensorED is an education-oriented social activism campaign. Based in Georgia, the campaign takes on Georgia House Bill 1084 which censors conversations about racism and racial history in classrooms under the guise that they’re “divisive”.

Goals & research

Going into the project there were 2 main goals in mind:

  • Raise awareness about the cause

  • Make the language of the bill accessible through a cohesive visual identity.

The average parent and student are not familiar with changes in laws surrounding education. It was important to make sure the language behind the campaign could be understood by both adults and teens. To counter House Bill 1084, we had to understand more about organized movements. We looked at the bold and unwavering language of pro-justice posters.

Execution

The visual identity centers education as its main focus. uncensorED builds upon the scholastic motifs that are familiar to current and past students in K-12 settings. The sse of bold strikethroughs and highlights throughout the branding conveys the idea of censorship and places importance on vital information throughout the type heavy branding.
